My second consideration was - does he have education experience and success? Looks like a yes.
A homeschool network of fake learning materials and fake discipline systems all point to cult-like controls to keep members in-line and stupid.
I guess this is why in the USA there are 10 year olds who can not read and "high school graduates" that can not string complete sentences into a paragraph, cannot balance a bank account, have almost no social skills, can not cope with any adversity and refuse to critically think about anything.
It appears that cults like homeschooling and if one is not careful homeschooling can become hate schooling.
